Hello friends! I don’t do this often, but I figured I’d share a little about myself and some things I am very excited about, I just can’t contain myself. First off the above picture is just one I took of a Pyrex dish I own and love and have meaning to post for a while. Cute eh? I love the retro Americana imagery.
So anyway, today Brian and I got keys to the house we are going to be renting. This summer we will be slowly transferring from our apartment to a cute, older historic home close to Millikin with lots and lots of space and character. We can’t wait to get settled in and start decorating!
And finally, the thing I am most excited about, today Brian and I are doing a 16 hour road trip (round-trip) to Michigan to pick up a letterpress. I’ve heard people say that when the time is right a press will find you. Suddenly, out of nowhere we stumbled across our perfect match, sooner than we ever expected. We plan to transform the basement of our new house into a silk-screen/letterpress studio and will hopefully be starting a little business. I am so happy that summer has finally arrived and I will actually have a little time to devote to my personal handmade dreams.
And… last weekend I went back to my home home to see my family. Got this cute romper and my sister Grace and I had a fun little photo-shoot! Ahh summer….

I know this has nothing to do with design, art, or the normal things I post about, but I just had to post some pictures from my favorite non-design related blog, The Daily Bunny. It’s so cute I can’t stand it. Every single day the serve up a new unbearable cute bunny. Here is a little sample. The last guy reminds me a bit of my little bunny Rothko!

I’m falling in love with all the darling vintage clothing from Swanee Grace. So many gorgeous finds here! I think that last little cream one I posted would make a really cute wedding dress. She also has a beautiful blog with lots of wonderful vintage inspirations.

Spent some of Sunday afternoon at the library in search of illustrative inspiration. I got stuck in the folklore section and fell in love with all these old books. I would love to have a collection of these on my shelf. The colors and typefaces are just so lovely! I checked out Forgotton Folk-Tales of the English Countries and A Dictionary of Fabulous Beasts.

In other news, I ordered one of these babies this morning! It’s an Astro Star laser projection lamp! How cool? I’m a little worried about the assemble it yourself part, but hey, it only cost me $6 so I guess that’s fair. I can’t wait for it to come in the mail so I can play with it!

I took these pictures a while back of some of the highlights in the little studio my boyfriend and I created in our apartment. Clearly, I love being surrounded by lots of inspiration! Enjoy!

I’m peeing my pants in excitement because the Renegade Craft Fair is THIS WEEKEND in Chicago! Be there or be square!

I am so pumped for Jay McCarroll’s (the season 1 winner of Project Runway) new fabric collection, “Germania“. Here’s the description from Free Spirit,
“Somewhere in the valley of bed bugs bugging and kooky crawlers crawling lies a place called GERMANIA where facemasks and hand sanitizer are strictly prohibited. Come celebrate an infectious good time care of your hosts the nerggles, the gwarbbles and the gablobs. Who says all germs are bad? Being clean is boring. Get a little dirty with GERMANIA.”
I think the description says it all. How perfect to do a collection celebrating germs! Too funny.

Here is something that I really wish more companies would get into. Now for $8 you can snag up a bag of over 1.5 lbs (aprox. 75 pieces) of American Apparel’s scrap fabric for your own crafty DIY pleasures. I am scrap obsessed and would love to play around with some of the textiles used by clothing companies I like. I think this is a great way to reduce waste in clothing factories.
My mom works in the sewing room of Dimension Design, a company that makes large fabric tension displays. They amount of scrap that is thrown into the trash is unbelievable. My mom is always bringing home gigantic, wonderful, but slightly flawed, masses of fabric. We always seem to find ways to reuse and re-purpose them. Companies selling usable scrap from the production of their goods is a wonderfully simple thing they can do to help the environment and put a few more cents in their pocket. I love that the DIY movement is inspiring the big guys to try some new green ideas.

Love these studded ballet flats! I like the idea of adding a tough and edgy touch to something so sweet and feminine. You can find these at the lovely Bona Drag. But, shhh… I really think this is a good idea for an easy diy project! I’m going to start looking on Ebay for some cheap ballet slippers!
